One Year in Calgary

Warning going to get a little personal here 😜 Tomorrow marks one year since moving to Calgary. Emotions have definitely been mixed this week. I’m proud we “survived” our first real winter in a long time.

I love our garden and yard. And oh the flowers 🤗 I love that the kids are happier. People in Calgary are very welcoming and friendly, they actually say hi to you on the street! I’m grateful for amazing new friends and neighbours. But if I’m honest I still miss BC. Maybe it’s the familiar that’s not there anymore, or missing all our friends. The mountains being right there. I’ve decided it’s ok to not feel completely home here. Living somewhere for 15 years then moving somewhere completely new, can take more than a year to adjust to and feel like home. I’m thankful for people that I’ve met who have experienced the same thing. Their experience, it takes time and that’s ok. Don’t feel bad for not loving it right away or even a year later. Find little things you love and focus on those things. Like escaping town to the mountains and seeing the canola fields in bloom for the first time. And yes even the beautiful snow covered streets. So cheers Calgary, it’s been quite the year! If you need me I’ll be plotting my next weekend escape to the mountains ⛰ .
